  • Pro-Life Politics, Global Poverty and Barack Obama
Dr. Jay Richards, Acton Research Fellow and Director of Media, discusses the attempt to redefine the term “pro-life” in such a way that a pro-abortion candidate can claim to be “pro-life” in spite of their support for abortion on The Frank Pastore Show on KKLA in Los Angeles. Pastore and Dr. Richards also took a look at Barack Obama’s proposed legislation that would commit billions of dollars to the reduction of global poverty. • The Importance of Trade for the Developing World
Kishore Jayabalan, director of the Acton Institute's offices in Rome, talks about the attempts to re-start the stalled Doha Round of WTO talks, and the importance to the developing world of access to free foreign markets, especially in regard the agriculture and manufacturing industries. Quick Links China Joins Doha Talks at the World Trade Organisation - Vatican Radio Who’s Afraid of Free Trade? - by Michael Miller, Acton Commentary. • Should the US Nationalize the Oil Industry?
Dr. Jay Richards, Acton's Director of Media, joins host Frank Pastore on KKLA in Los Angeles to discuss the recent proposal by some Democrat members of Congress to nationalize the US domestic oil industry in response to this year's spike in gasoline prices. Richards addresses the idea that such a move would decrease prices, arguing that it would be more likely to increase prices and lead to shortages.

  • Religion in the Public Square
Rev. Robert A. Sirico, president of the Acton Institute, joins host Carl Zylstra to discuss the role of religious belief in the public square of society. How are believers to put their faith in action in political and policy discussions without being simply co-opted by various political interests? How has Pope Benedict XVI engaged with society? What was the role of faith in the life of William F.

  • John McCain and Climate Change
Michael Miller, Director of Programs at the Acton Institute, makes an appearance on Jacksonville's progressive talk radio station, AM 1460 WZNZ, to discuss the issue of Global Warming and how Republican presidential candidate John McCain plans to address it. Miller looks at whether or not McCain's "Cap and Trade" proposal is actually a market and whether or not it will actually work.

  • The Ethanol Fiasco
Ray Nothstine, an associate editor at Acton, joins host Bud Hedinger on AM 540 WFLA in Orlando, Florida to discuss the unintended consequences of the federal government's decision to heavily promote and subsidize corn-based ethanol as an alternative to petroleum based fuels. As Mr. Nothstine predicted last year, the result of the diversion of a large portion of the corn crop into fuel production has resulted in rising prices for food, while at the same time fuel prices continue to rise.

  • An Earth Day Review of Global Warming
Dr. Jay Richards, director of Acton Media, joins David Welch, host of WEPM-AM's Panhandle Live, to discuss the state of the debate over Global Warming. Dr. Richards discusses the scientific evidence that the Earth has warmed slightly over the last century, and comments on the controversy over whether the rise in temperature is primarily due to human activities or natural causes.

  • Pope Benedict's Address to the United Nations
Kishore Jayabalan worked for several years at the Holy See's Mission in the United Nations, before working at the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace at the Vatican. He is currently the director of the Acton Institute's Rome office, Istituto Acton. He gives us his impression of the Pope's speech at the United Nations. The pope, says Jayabalan, "very clearly laid out the terms of a religious understanding of 'the common good,' a common good that recognizes the role of the state, but also limits the roles of the state." • Is it Hot In Here? What Should Christians Think About Global Warming?
Dr. Richards explores the biblical foundations for our stewardship over the environment and its importance in the debate on Global Warming. He also discusses the mainstream views on Global Warming and answers four of the main questions concerning global climate change: Is the earth warming? Are we causing it? If the earth is warming and we are causing it, is that bad? Would the advised policies make any difference?

  • A Look At The New Religious Left
Rev. Robert A. Sirico, President of the Acton Institute, joins host Sandy Rios on WYLL in Chicago, Illinois to talk about his upcoming address on "The Rise (and Eventual Downfall) of the New Religious Left" at the University Club of Chicago. Rios and Sirico note that the goals of the new Religious Left are more political than religious, and note the propensity of the movement toward state solutions to social problems, and the relatively new adherence to more extreme environmental ideologies.
